PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
To accredit a learner with practical, foundational and reflexive competence for teaching in Grades 8 - 10 in two specialist subjects. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
(a). NQF level 4 Further Education and Training Certificate or RPL equivalent

AND

(b). A minimum of five years teaching experience

AND

Currently employed as a primary/secondary school teacher (proof of this must be submitted) a series of admission tests are to be completed successfully by these applicants.

    A learner who successfully completed this diploma is also able to, inter alia

    1. Identify and solve problems, displaying her/his ability to think critically and creatively

    3. Organise and manage his/her time responsibly and effectively

    4. Collect, organise, analyse and critically evaluate information

    5. Communicate effectively using visual, mathematical and or language skills in the modes of oral and written persuasion

    6. Recognise that problem solving contexts do not exist in isolation 

  • ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    A learners should be able to demonstrate the practical competences required by the contextual role, as list above under assessment outcomes, grounded in foundational competence and integrated through reflexive competence. These competences are assessed as performed in the subject specialist role.


    INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT


    The learner must be able to demonstrate his/her acquired knowledge, skills and attitudes in an integrated way. The assessment is:

    Continuous, consisting of, inter alia, written and or oral tests, assignments, demonstrations, portfolios and projects and or

    Summative consisting of a written or oral examination or other appropriate assessment strategy 

    ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    Horizontal Internal Articulation: None

    Vertical, internal articulation exists with the Secondary Education Diploma (Grades 11 - 12)

    Vertical and horizontal external articulation exist with programmes that are similar to those mentioned above, offered at other higher education institutions in the country. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    University Senate and Council (internally). External standards are set (but not moderated) by the employer as described in the Norms and Standards for Educators. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    Internal assessors are academics from Vista University who hold relevant qualifications at least at the same level, but preferably higher than that of this Certificate AND have relevant teaching experience.

    As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006.
