A person credited with this unit standard is able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the effects of globalisation on manufacturing,
  • Demonstrate an understanding of manufacturing methodologies.

    This unit standard is intended for operation mangers who needs to understand and apply manufacturing principles and methodologies in the manufacturing environment during the manufacturing of world class production and manufacturing. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment for any individual.

    The scope and context of this unit standard is for mangers who needs to understand and apply manufacturing principles and methodologies in the manufacturing environment during the manufacturing of world class production and manufacturing.

    2. The types of a manufacturing layout are described and their advantages discussed according to manufacturing layout principles.

    Layout refer to layout by process, product and fixed-position layout.

    3. The principles of just-in-time manufacturing methodology are identified and discussed according to JIT principles.

    4. Key areas in a total productive management system are identified according to effective and efficient manufacturing principles.
