PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This standard is in the elective category of the NQF Level 2 National Certificate in Clothing Processes. Learners assessed competent against this standard will be able to press sewn parts, sort, tag and pack all sewn products and prepare garments for delivery. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners will have attained an ABET Level 4 qualification and will be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Learners will also communicate verbally and in writing at ABET Level 4. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
Pressing equipment will include:
  • Iron (hand iron).
  • Buck press.
  • Legger.

    Packaging equipment and machinery will include:
  • Tape dispensers - buff and paper.
  • Bagging machines.

  • Calculators, computers, printers and bar code scanners.
  • Scales.
  • Strapping machines.
    This standard will include finishing processes to produce garments for use in the following:

  • Leisurewear.
  • Intimate / sleepwear.
  • Swimwear / actionwear.
  • Knitwear.
  • Hosiery.
  • Workwear.
  • Linen.
    Fabric types will include:
  • Wovens.

    Fabrics include filament or spun yarns at a variety of weights, finishes and structures.

    Identify and solve problems relating to machines used in finishing processes.

    Work as a member of a team meeting quality and time standards as they relate to pressing and packing garments ensuring that materials required and "extra hands" needed contribute to those standards being met. 

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO ORGANISING 
    Organise, analyse and evaluate information and take decisions to adjust practices to meet different specifications. 

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO COMMUNICATING 
    Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing passing on appropriate information and compiling reports to ensure successful completion of processes to prepare, press and pack garments. 

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO DEMONSTRATING 
    Understand the world as a set of related systems thereby being able to relate to the pattern making process leading to requirements of cutting and sewing practices and then finishing, as a cycle of processes.
