PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner is capable of scrubbing hard and resilient floors using a battery-operated automatic scrubber-drier. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
The learner has the speaking and listening ability equal to an NQF Level 1 standard and/or any other communication skill that will enable him/her to confirm the knowledge and skills required by this unit standard.

  • Maintain batteries in cleaning machines. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    1. The scope of this unit standard is for any person who needs to scrub hard and resilient floors using a battery-operated automatic scrubber-drier.
    2. An automatic scrubber-drier in the context of this unit standard is a battery operated, walk-behind or ride-on automatic scrubber-drier with a maximum cleaning width of 1000mm. It is not applicable to automatic scrubber-driers fitted with pre-sweeping attachments.
    3. The level assigned to this unit standard is appropriate because the processes are moderate in range, are established and familiar, and offer a clear choice of routine responses.

    Definition of terms within this unit standard:

    1. Electronic cut-off probes refer to the electronic probes located in the recovery tank, which shut off the vacuum once the recovery tank has filled to maximum capacity.
    2. Flammable liquids include are but is not limited to solvents such as petrol and thinners. Flammable liquids will cause an explosion in a vacuum motor.
    3. Hard floor surfaces can include terrazzo, quarry tiles, terracotta, ceramic, slate, wood, concrete, marble and granite.
    4. Recovery tank refers to the tank containing the dirty solution that has been vacuumed from the floor.
    5. Resilient floor surfaces can include vinyl, cushioned vinyl, asphalt, linoleum, and profiled rubber.
    6. Solution tank refers to the tank containing the chemical solution that will be fed onto the floor through the automatic scrubber-drier.
    7. Water shut-off float refers to the float that shuts off the vacuum once the recovery tank has filled to maximum capacity.
