PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended:

  • For those working in, or entering the workplace in the area of Information Technology

    People credited with this unit standard are able to:
  • Select an appropriate test procedure for the networked IT systems to be tested
  • Prepare the testing to ensure the given specifications will be addressed
  • Apply the test procedure to the IT Systems to be tested
  • Collect and record data from testing the networked IT systems
    The performance of all elements is to a standard that allows for further learning in this area. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    The credit value of this unit is based on a person having the prior knowledge and skills to:
  • Understand how to test a stand alone IT system against given specifications 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    Networked IT systems refers to a combination of workstations on a network, including a server workstation. It could also refer to combinations of programs with interfaces to other components being tested, making it more complex than just unit testing.

    Select an appropriate test procedure for the networked IT systems to be tested.

    4. The selection complies with all relevant regulatory, licensing, contractual and health and safety requirements. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Prepare the testing of networked systems to ensure the given specifications will be addressed.

    1. The preparation ensures a plan is prepared for the testing in line with the given specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The preparation ensures the plan specifies what needs to be testing. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The preparation documents the test scenarios and test data to be used for the test. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. The preparation documents the outcomes expected for each of the scenarios prepared. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Apply the test procedure to networked IT systems.

    2. The application tests the networked IT systems involved by using the selected test procedure.

    3. The application ensures that all performance parameters and operational requirements are tested. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. The application identifies any problems with the test procedure and takes appropriate action. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    5. The application complies with all relevant regulatory, licensing, contractual and health and safety requirements. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Collect and record data from testing the networked IT systems.

    1. The recording ensures that the required data was produced. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The recording ensures that the data was correctly collected in line with the documented test scenarios.

    3. The recording ensures that the data are sufficient to meet the purpose of the test. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. The recording identifies any problems with the collection of data and takes appropriate action. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    5. The results are recorded by using an appropriate information system. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    The relevant Education and Training Quality Authority (ETQA) must accredit providers before they can offer programs of education and training assessed against unit standards.

    Moderation Process:
    Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
