PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to prepare a treatment locality and their workstation so that eyebrow and eye lash tinting can be performed in a professional manner. They will also be able to prepare their client for the treatment.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Preparing the treatment room for eyelash and eyebrow tinting services
  • Preparing the client for eyelashes and eyebrow tinting
  • Managing and performing the colouring of eyelashes and eyebrows by means of tinting
  • Following procedures and performing post tinting services 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
  • Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence against unit standards in mathematical and communication studies at NQF Level 2 or equivalent.
  • Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence against unit standard "Prepare for and conduct eyebrow grooming C3.11" 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Safe and hygienic work practises means that the required levels of hygiene are maintained at all times and that the equipment, tools, materials, treatment areas and the working environment are cleaned and sanitised in the appropriate manner.

    Required level of hygiene for this unit standard includes:
  • Disposable tools and materials are required with the exception of tools and materials that can be sterilised.

    Work environment includes:
  • Immediate work environment is clean and dust free
  • Environment is odour fresh
  • All spills are dealt with immediately
  • All products and containers are clean

    Waste disposal includes:
  • All needles and lancets are put in a sharp's container
  • The contents of sharp's containers are incinerated according to health specifications
  • Materials (inter alia -gloves, cotton wool, gauze, tissues, orange sticks, disposable garments, spatulas) soiled with bodily fluids are placed in a bin/receptacle with plastic liner sprinkled with the appropriate sterling, the bag is sealed and disposed of.
  • Professional manner is continuously assessed according to aspects such as ethical standards, personal and interpersonal skills, body language, verbal and non - verbal communication, posture and personal appearance.

    Prepare the treatment room for eyelash and eyebrow tinting services. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The tinting service to be performed is determined; the appropriate colour tint is selected and the trolley for tinting services is prepared with the appropriate tools, products and materials. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The treatment couch/chair is appropriately covered and protected according to organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    An appropriate waste receptacle is positioned within reach of workstations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Appropriate record keeping documentation is made available and the treatment room (area) meets the required levels of hygiene. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Prepare the client for eyelashes and eyebrow tinting.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A patch test is performed prior to the tinting service. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The client is received and consulted with in a professional and polite manner. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The client is suitably prepared for a lash and brow tint by cleaning the appropriate area. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The area to be treated is assessed and prepared according to organisational requirements. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Manage and perform the colouring of eyelashes and eyebrows by means of tinting.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The tinting products are mixed according to manufacturer's instructions in appropriate receptacle and the mixture is applied according to manufacturer's instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The application is checked using the appropriate methodology for even coverage. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The colour development of the eyelash and eyebrow hair is monitored, timed and checked according to manufacturers instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The area is thoroughly rinsed to remove all traces of tinting procedure.

    The result is achieved to meet the client's specific outcomes.

    Products and materials are economically used throughout the service.
