PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard will be able to prepare to style long hair, style long hair into an elementary styles and complete follow up actions.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Preparing the workstation in accordance to organisational and hygienic requirements.
  • Preparing to style hair.
  • Styling long hair into an elementary style.
  • Completing long hair style procedure. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners assessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence against unit standards in mathematical, computer, numerical and communication studies at NQF Level 2 or equivalent. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Hair analysis: porosity, elasticity, texture, density, length, scalp conditions, growth patterns.
  • Hair preparation: shampooing, blow drying, pre setting, straightening.
  • Styling Aids: backcombing, clips, products.
  • Home care advice: product types, hair maintenance.
  • Cleaning and tidying: work areas, shampoo area, styling station.

    The client is consulted with, in a professional manner to establish hair style requirements.

    The client is gowned, prepared and protected in readiness for a long hairstyle according to salon procedures.

    Safety and hygienic practices are adhered to throughout the process.

    Consultation with client identified and confirms work needed.

    An analysis of the hair and scalp is conducted as per organisational requirements.

    The hair style to be dressed is selected, in accordance with the client's requirements and compatibility with hair and scalp analysis.

    The client is protected against water and or product spillage.

    Hair is prepared in accordance with clients' requirements and salon procedures.
