PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for all those who assist with the planning and implementation of functions on behalf of the organisation.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Explaining the nature and purpose of PR
  • Explaining the role of PR in the organisation
  • Assisting with PR operations related to open-days
  • Assisting with PR operations related to exhibitions
  • Assisting with PR operations related to conferences, seminars and special events

    The seven point plan of a public relations programme is explained with examples of how each is used in the programme.

    A comprehensive checklist is drawn up containing the activities to be executed before, during and after the open-day. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    People who have been assigned tasks related to the open day are informed thereof in time for them to be able to carry them out. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Delegated tasks to be performed prior to, during and after the open-day are executed timeously and conscientiously. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Assist with PR operations related to exhibitions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A comprehensive checklist is drawn up containing the activities to be executed before, during and after the exhibition. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    People who have been assigned tasks related to the open day are informed thereof in time for them to be able to carry them out. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The necessary material for the exhibition is collected beforehand so as to be available at the exhibition. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Necessary material includes but is not limited to posters, flyers, publications to be handed out, photographs, models, gifts, educational toys, competition materials, samples, audio tapes, flags, banners.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Delegated tasks performed prior, during and after the exhibition are executed timeously and conscientiously. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5 
    Assist with PR operations related to conferences, seminars and special events. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A comprehensive checklist is drawn up containing the activities to be executed before, during and after the conference/seminar/special event. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    People who have been assigned tasks related to the event are informed thereof in time for them to be able to carry them out. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The necessary equipment and materials for the workshop/event are obtained or arrangements made for their procurement before the start of the workshop/seminar. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Necessary equipment includes but is not limited to: loudspeaker system, computer equipment, overhead projector, writing materials.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Delegated tasks performed prior, during and after the conference/event are executed timeously and conscientiously.

  • Assessors must be registered as an Assessor with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
