PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
To make a person, carrying out mechanical or electrical work, aware of safety signs, regulations and procedures in order to enable him/her to work without causing injury to self or others in the vicinity of the workplace and without causing damage to equipment or the surroundings.

  • It is assumed that learners starting to learn towards this unit standard are able to communicate effectively with others and have been alerted to the consequences of unsafe working practices.

    Supplementary information:
    Legal requirements regarding worksite safety as well as the use of tools and equipment are contained in the relevant clause of the occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), SANS 10142-1, NOSA publications and company worksite procedures.

    Any person learning towards the National Certificate in Air-conditioning, Refrigeration and Ventilation at NQF level 2 shall not work on electrically live equipment or electrically live control panels.
