PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
The qualifying learner is capable of:
Supervising concrete production and related operations ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety legislation, specifications and industry standards
The contribution to The National Skills Development Strategy is the key developmental interface between learners and new competencies to be achieved.

Learners who master the applied competence described in this unit standard will contribute to the development of a professional community of construction concreting practitioners within the Civil Engineering sector who are able to supervise concrete production activities ensuring all resources are effectively utilised and optimal productivity requirements are achieved.

The contribution to socio-economic transformation is that learners will be able to undergo RPL-assessment and thereby receive recognition for previous learning and experience. This in turn will enhance the employability and career prospects of learners employed in this sector.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
The following knowledge, skills attitude and/or equivalent:
NQF level 2 Language and Mathematics

Learners will have demonstrated a knowledge and understanding of construction drawings and specifications, techniques for calculating construction quantities and developing work plans, setting out work areas and identifying and describing materials used in civil construction

UNIT STANDARD RANGE
The typical scope of this unit standard:
Assessment against this unit standard must be undertaken on site. On site refers to a wide range of building and construction environments within which trade skills are required, and includes concrete production and concrete construction sites.

Specific range statements are provided in the body of the unit standard where they apply to particular specific outcomes or assessment criteria.
