PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner who has achieved this unit standard will be competent in:
  • Maintaining a lamina and stem cutter to ensure optimum production performance of the units.

    To enter a learning programme for this unit standard or to be assessed against this unit standard, the learner is assumed to have:
  • National Certificate in Tobacco Processing - NQF Level 3.
  • Mechanical background - NQF Level 3 or equivalent. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    General guide for scope, context and level:
  • The learner is expected to perform the specific outcomes as reflected in this unit standard with minimal supervision, but with access to work-site procedures and operating instructions
  • The scope of this unit standard deals with the repair and commissioning of lamina and stem cutters.
  • Lamina and stem cutter components include, but are not limited to, packers, force feed unit, photocells, diffusers, sprockets and pulleys, timex and v-belts, drive chains, top chain carriage, top and bottom chain rollers, scrapers, top member, knife drum components, traverse drive, grinding unit, mouthpiece components, fines extraction unit, regulators, solenoids, pneumatic and/or hydraulic cylinders, drive clutch, chain lubrication distribution unit, and covers.
