PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person credited with this unit standard is able to demonstrate and apply an understanding of the operational components of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:
  • Describe the different components of an ERP system
  • Explain the different environments that constitute an ERP system
  • Give an overview of the navigational concepts pertaining to an ERP system
  • Perform basic navigation within an ERP system
  • Understand and apply the system-wide concepts within the ERP system
  • Analyse the relationships between various system-wide concepts with a view to understanding their interdependence
  • Demonstrate and apply an understanding of the 'configuration requirements' of an ERP system

    It is assumed that learners are competent in:
  • Computing at NQF Level 3.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3.

  • This unit standard is meant to give learners an understanding of the connection between business enabling systems and the processes they support.
  • Learners are expected to gain an awareness of the manner in which Business systems, and ERP systems in particular, can add value in a business environment.
  • This unit standard alone will not give learners comprehensive technical expertise in ERP or Business systems.
  • The unit standard relies on the learner's awareness of some aspect of the business functionality, be it through direct experience or observation.

    The components of an ERP system are analysed in context to their role within the overall functioning of an ERP solution.

    Perform basic navigation within an ERP system. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Including but not limited to Logon, Log off, Menus, Navigation Methods, Searching, and Favourites. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    An overview is given of navigational concepts pertaining to an ERP system. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The application of navigational concepts is demonstrated in the context of the day-to-day usage of an ERP system. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Understand and apply the system-wide concepts within the ERP system. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Enterprise structure, Master Data, Outputs, and Functional Areas. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    An explanation is provided of the system-wide concepts within the ERP system. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The relationships between the various system-wide concepts are analysed to illustrate their interdependence. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The difference between transactional and master data is demonstrated using specific examples. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Demonstrate and apply an understanding of 'configuration requirements' of an ERP system.

    'Configuration requirements' are explained with respect to the enterprise structure. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Minor configuration activities, relevant to a specific area of operation, are completed in accordance with organizational requirements.
