PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to demonstrate an understanding of an exhibition organisation so that the ability to work successfully in the exhibition industry is enhanced. The learner's overall understanding of an exhibition organisation will assist in building relationships with exhibitors in the industry and contribute towards the growth of the industry. Learners will also be able to recognise the various stakeholders in the exhibition industry and build relationships with them, to the benefit of the industry.

The qualifying learner is capable of
  • Identifying stakeholders in exhibition industry.
  • Conducting research on types of exhibitions and their venues.
  • Conducting research on location of venues for different exhibitions.
  • Capturing and editing exhibition industry data. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Competence in Computer Literacy, Mathematical Literacy and Communication at NQF level 2 or equivalent.

  • Stakeholders and locations will include but are not limited to: clients, customers, sub-contractors, hotels, conference facilities, exhibition facilities, event facilities, and exhibition associations and institutions (such as EXSA).
  • Data gathered and processed will include but is not limited to: client information, client needs, exhibition types, sales contacts, prospective client details, networking details, stakeholder details and sub-contractor details.
  • Recording of research information will include but is not limited to: manual recording systems, electronic recording systems.
  • Logistical needs will include but are not limited to: accommodation, transport, parking, access, media, electronic, computer links, telephone links.
