This unit standard is for people performing fire lookout duties.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:
  • Locate and report relevant incidents by applying standard surveillance techniques.
  • Monitor and report equipment condition.
  • Maintain general housekeeping.

    Locate and report incidents using standard surveillance techniques. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The area is observed using prescribed surveillance methods. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Foreground, mid-ground, background, 360o, vertical, horizontal, binoculars.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Relevant incidents are located and reported accurately and timeously in accordance with Industry standards.

  • Position of fire.
  • Colour and direction of smoke.
  • Suspicious.
  • Traffic and other activities.

    Monitor and report equipment condition and maintain site.

    The equipment is monitored and its condition recorded/reported in accordance with standard operating procedure.

    The building and surrounds are maintained in accordance with local requirements.

    Clear and unobstructed view of total area to be covered, in accordance with relevant legislation.
