PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard will serve to develop the information literacy of the Library and Information services (LIS) practitioner. It will equip learners with the ability to find, evaluate and use information from a variety of sources. It will equip learners with insight into the needs of LIS clients. Furthermore, a basic knowledge of the sources and locations of information in learners' environments will be acquired.

Learners accredited with this unit standard will be capable of:
  • Analysing the need for information.
  • Selecting appropriate information sources.
  • Locating the relevant information.
  • Using the information to meet the identified need.
  • Presenting and acknowledging information from a variety of sources.
