PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
People credited with this standard have the ability to interpret a technical drawing and the accompanying specifications and data to determine:
  • The type of system and method of operation in terms of the layout of the system, the type of system equipment and components and the installation requirements.
  • The operations required enabling the manufacture, installation/assembly, fault determination, repair and overhaul, and routine maintenance of plants, equipment and components. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that people starting to learn towards this unit standard:
  • Have already demonstrated a basic understanding of plane geometry and three-dimensional geometry used in the preparation of workshop drawings.
  • Can draw simple sketches or drawings.
  • Have proven ability in the use of both the SI and Imperial systems.
  • Can interpret the relevant SABS Codes relating to technical drawings.
