PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is particularly relevant for environmental educators working with groups of learners in environmental education centres or heritage sites.

People credited with this unit standard will be able to fulfil the administrative requirements of an environmental education practitioner. The unit standard provides basic guidelines for record keeping, reporting and working with petty cash.

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Implement existing administrative systems in the workplace
  • Organise and maintain the learning environment
  • Handle petty cash efficiently and accountably
  • Keep records and prepare reports 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    The learner should demonstrate GETC or equivalent. This unit standard does not assume prior environmental education training or experience. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    At this level, the candidate will work under supervision of a more senior staff member. Although not required to manage administrative systems, s/he will be required to use and work within existing systems effectively and efficiently.

    1. Know and explain relevant administrative policies and procedures in the workplace.

    Including administrative policies and procedures around leave, use of resources, communication, requisitions, schedules and rosters, group bookings, safety and security, etc.

    2. Use administrative systems and procedures correctly, efficiently and accountably.

    1. Make and confirm bookings and requisitions for venues, equipment and materials accurately and in good time.

    2. Organise learning environments before, during and after a learning event so that they enhance the quality of learning.

    Learning venues are clean and tidy; sufficient furniture, equipment and/or materials are available, laid out appropriately and in good working order.

    3. Use furniture, equipment and materials are correctly and carefully, store safely and return in good order if requisitioned.

    4. Monitor and attend to potential occupational health and safety risks.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Accreditation and moderation options:

    Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

    Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA.

    Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
