PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for learners who have to demonstrate the ability to monitor, report and advise on the safety principles pertaining to non-electrical and non-mechanical sources of energy.

Learners credited with this unit standard will be capable of:
  • Monitoring, reporting and advising on the specified requirements regarding the safety principles applicable to non-electrical and non-mechanical sources of energy.
  • Applying safety principles for non-electrical and non-mechanical sources of energy.
  • Explaining the need for relevant Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when dealing with non-electrical and non-mechanical sources of energy.
  • Monitoring, reporting and advising on the relevant legislation, including laws, by laws, maintenance and handling protocols with examination records, applicable to non-electrical and non-mechanical sources of energy.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    PPE required when isolating non-electrical and non-mechanical sources of energy, is described and demonstrated. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The consequences of not wearing the relevant PPE when exposed to non-electrical and non-mechanical sources of energy are explained according to the specific sources. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Use of different types of PPE used in isolating non-electrical and non-mechanical sources of energy, is applied.
