PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners who demonstrate competence as described in the outcomes of this unit standard will be able to solve equipment and installation problems during gas installations using relevant technologies.

The qualifying learner is able to:
  • Identify deviations from the normal operating conditions.
  • Determine likely cause of the deviation experienced.
  • Implement corrective action.
  • Evaluate the impact of corrective action.

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of any learner within the gas installations environment, by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field. The knowledge, skills and understanding demonstrated in this unit standard are essential for upliftment, social and economic transformation in the gas installation environment. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence against literacy and mathematical literacy at ABET Level 4, NQF Level 1 or equivalent. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The typical context of this unit standard assumes an existing or new domestic or commercial gas installation site.

    The typical scope of this unit standard includes one of the following but is not limited to:
  • LPG installations.
  • Natural gas installations.
  • Compressed gas installations.
  • Medical installations.

    Factors that influence the deviating variable(s) are identified in accordance with workplace procedures.

    Factors that cause the deviation include equipment and machinery, materials, consumables, installation conditions, peripheral and external system conditions and human interventions.

    Factors are considered to determine those that could cause deviation from norms.

    Cause of deviation from norm is identified in accordance with workplace procedures.
