PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to check and handle airfreight shipments for export. The learner will also be able to consolidate and choose equipment to handle the airfreight cargo. The learner will also be able to accurately and timeously complete the correct document for airfreight and accept and dispatch airfreight cargo.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Receiving airfreight shipments for export.
  • Matching airfreight equipment to cargo requirements.
  • Preparing airfreight documentation.
  • Dispatching airfreight cargo. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this qualification will be assumed competent in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 2 or equivalent.

    Airfreight consignments are checked for compliance with transport requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Transport requirements may include but is not limited to documentation, cargo type, routing, service, packing, marking and labelling.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Specialised cargoes are handled and stored in compliance with the cargo type requirements.

    Specialised cargoes include but is not limited to:
  • Perishables, live animals and human remains.
     

  • ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Airfreight is planned in terms of transport requirements and clients standing instructions.

    Export procedures are planned in terms of statutory requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Statutory requirements may include but are not limited to Customs, health, veterinary, security, nature conservation, safety, quality and import and export control.

    Airfreight bookings are carried out in accordance with service requirements.

    Unit load packing is planned in accordance with the principles of safety and load optimisation.

    Airfreight transport documentation is prepared in compliance with The Air Cargo Tariff (TACT) requirements, client tariff arrangements and applicable payment instruments.

    Clearance documentation is prepared in terms of statutory requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The importance of accurate and timeous completion of airfreight documentation is explained with examples.

    Dispatch airfreight cargo.
