PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
An individual who has achieved this unit standard is capable of compounding, manipulating, preparing and packing a pharmaceutical product, including preparing for and concluding the process. In addition the individual will be able to implement and record the quality control process. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
It is assumed that the learner is competent in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 2.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF level 2.

    Authorisation for the ingredients, packaging and labels selected for the order is obtained from the person with the authority to give such authorisation.

    Correct counting, measuring, weighing and mixing techniques are applied according to instruction. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Product is packed into the appropriately labelled container.

    Conclude the compounding, manipulation and packaging process.

    The importance of the relevant standard operating procedures is explained in terms of legislative and health and safety requirements.

    Unused product is returned to appropriate storage areas.

    Unused labels are destroyed according to and upon instruction from the appropriately authorised person.
