PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard will be useful for people who are pursuing a career in rock engineering.

This unit standard is intended to promote general skills, knowledge and understanding of processing the results of in-situ evaluation of support installation quality in the mining and minerals sector in order to ensure knowledgeable and informed workers.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Different types of in-situ support installation quality evaluations are listed and explained in the context of mining operations. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Must include:
  • Support unit behaviour (yielding, failure, intact).
  • Installation spacing.
  • Installation quality (pull test, pre-stressing, thickness, grout, cement mix, support unit construction).
  • Loads generated (load cells, closure measurement).
     

  • ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A basic explanation of support installation criteria is provided in the context of mining operations. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Must include:
  • Direction of installation.
  • Height-to-width ratio.
  • Stable contact with adjacent rockwalls.
  • Construction quality.
  • Pre-stressing.
  • Tendon length and diameter.
