PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for learners within the bomb disposal, explosives, pyrotechnics, demolitions and blasting environment who need to identify and explain switches and triggering devices in order to be able to them in explosive devises. The competencies achieved by the learner in this Unit Standard will lead to a safer society for South African citizens.

A learner credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Explain the various switches and triggering devices.
  • Identify hazards associated with the various switches and triggering devices.
  • Construct and neutralise switches and triggering devices.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
