    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Tools and materials necessary to remove components and repair PC boards are identified and selected to deliver the highest level of conformance.
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
Highest level of conformance refers to when the procedures most closely duplicates the physical characteristics of the original and most probably complies with all the functional, environmental and serviceability. While lowest level of conformance refers to the significant variance with the physical character of the original and may vary with many of the electrical, functional, environmental and serviceability factors.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3
    Repair damaged PC boards.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
Coating on the PC board is identified in order to determine the procedure to be followed for its removal.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Types of repairs that have to be performed are identified in terms of the defects detected.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
Defects detected are assessed/evaluated in order to determine the extent of the damage.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Repairs are carried out in accordance with the IPC standards.
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
Repairs include but are not limited to legend/markings, blisters and delamination, bow and twist, hole repair, key and slot repair, base material, conductor repair, land repair and jumper wire installation.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4
    Replace components on PC board.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
The replacement and soldering of components on the PC board are carried out in accordance with the IPC J-STD-001 standards.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Problem-solving skills are demonstrated through the selection of procedures and tools to deal with unique situations.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
The environment in which the assembly will function is considered when selecting the necessary soldering techniques.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Specialised tools to replace the components on the PC board are selected and calibrated to ensure successful replacement of surface mount technology.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5
Thermal mass properties of the assembly is understood in order to carry out successful repairmen of the assembly.
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
Thermal mass refers to heat capacity of the solder joint.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5
    Remove coatings and encapsulations.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
Types of coatings and encapsulations used on the assembly are identified in order to select the removal procedure.
