PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for persons in the Electrical Engineering; Generation; Distribution; Transmission; Construction and Renewable Energy Sectors.

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Demonstrate and understanding of renewable energy technologies.

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of the learner within the electrical engineering and construction environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field of Physical Planning and Construction. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the electrical engineering and construction environment.

  • An understanding of renewable energy technologies.

    Energy efficient devices refer to but are not limited to lights, refrigerators, batteries, cabling, etc.

    The potential savings introduced by each type of device is quantified and explained.

    An energy audit.

    The ratings of appliances are determined and explained.

    Appliances can include but is not limited to light fitting, radio, television, fridge etc.

    The period of use of an appliance is estimated and explained. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The energy consumption of each appliance is determined in kWhrs and a total derived.
