PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard has as its core purpose, qualifying learners who will demonstrate an understanding of the key domestic and foreign policies of South Africa. They will demonstrate a clear understanding of how these policies influence international diplomatic relations in a mission.

The qualifying learner will be able to:
  • Analyse the historical significance of the achievement of democracy in South Africa.
  • Analyse the government policy on key domestic issues.
  • Analyse the impact of government policy on domestic issues.
  • Analyse the phenomena of xenophobia and racism.
  • Analyse South Africa's economic policies.
  • Analyse South Africa's foreign policy.

    An analysis is provided of the role of the liberation movements internally and internationally in the transition to democracy.

    The analysis highlights the significance of major historic decisions and events.
