PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is directed at people training to become diplomats or to work in diplomatic contexts where they will be required to Analyse and advance South African domestic and foreign policy.

People credited with this unit standard are capable of:
  • Analysing and articulating domestic government structures, processes, policies, programmes and projects.
  • Analysing and articulating South Africa's foreign policy.
  • Analysing the policies of the AU, SADC, SACU and other regional structures.
  • Analyse international relations.

    The history of the achievement of democracy in South Africa is described. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    The role of the Liberation and Mass Democratic Movement internally and internationally; the events that led to the unbanning of political movements; the role played by individuals and international communities to negotiate change; major historic decisions and events; the centrality of the Constitution.

    Government structures and systems are described in terms of the cluster system (integrated government system), planning cycles, linkages between government political priorities and delivery (programme of action), at all spheres of government.

    An analysis of government policies identifies their purposes, key issues and related processes.
