PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Regulatory legislation exists for the training and exhibition of performing animals encompassing the use of dogs for safeguarding. Inspectors must be familiar with its implications and application in conjunction with animal cruelty legislation. There are specific exclusions of which inspectors must be aware.

Learners credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Describe the documentation required by a person who intends to train or exhibit animals or use dogs for safeguarding.
  • Describe operations and activities that require a licence before animals may be used.
  • Explain aspects of police powers conferred on an authorised animal protection inspector by legislation for performing animals.

  • Assessment of this unit standard should be contextual and practical.
