PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard will provide a qualifying learner with the knowledge and skills to produce a two dimensional (2D) Computer Aided Drawing in accordance with job requirements. The software programme used to generate the computer aided drawings is neither prescribed nor suggested. The qualifying learner will demonstrate competence in applying the functions of the software programme to represent the job/client requirements. This unit standard encompasses all disciplines of draughting.

The qualifying learner will be capable of:
  • Preparing the computer environment for using CAD software.
  • Preparing to produce a (2D) computer aided drawing.
  • Verifying the interpretation of job requirements .
  • Producing a detailed a computer aided drawing.

    Computer aided drawing software programme is selected and activated in accordance with the job, software manufacturer's instructions and hardware requirements.

    Programme is customized and configured in relation to available peripherals. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Preparation of the drawing area suits the task in terms of size, scale, parameters, paper size and orientation.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    CAD commands are applied to perform drawing operations in accordance with software functionality. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Range of CAD commands to perform 2D drawing operations includes, but is not limited to:
  • Creation of various drawing display levels on the screen; drawing of various line-types; drawing of geometrical figures, drawing of tangential lines, sectioning of sectional views, insertion of dimensions, stretch, mirror and alterations/amendments to drawn views, insertion of fillets, chamfers and radii, enlarging and reducing, erasing, deletions and undeletions, repetition of repeated detail, grouping and blocking of portions of a drawing on the screen ("patterns" or "blocks"), insertion and manipulation of text, copy, move and rotate, measurement of lengths, angles and areas, change the scales of drawings, dividing an entity into an equal number of parts, zoom in and out, trimming of line segments, break-out defined entities such as lines, arcs and circles, reading and retrieving of files, reference and merging of files - read and write commands, conversion of files into different formats (e.g. ASCII or DXF), cleaning up a completed drawing, moving and scaling drawings to fit various sheet sizes, plotting of drawings, exit CAD program and return to the operating system.
