UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS
  • Anyone assessing an individual against this unit standard must meet the assessor requirements of the relevant ETQA. In particular, such assessors must demonstrate that they assess in terms of the scope and context defined in all the range statements.
  • Any institution offering learning towards this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.
  • External moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA at its discretion according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.

    Critical Cross-field Outcomes (CCFO):

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO WORKING
    Teamwork:
  • Enforcement of legislation requires teamwork, collaborating with colleagues, subordinates and management.

  • UNIT STANDARD CCFO COLLECTING
    Information review:
  • This is achieved in the process of providing assistance to fishers in the collation and analysis of catch data.

  • UNIT STANDARD CCFO COMMUNICATING
    Effective Communication:
  • Integrated coastal zone management involves talking to communities to promote voluntary compliance with conservation legislation and regulations. It requires keeping the communication channels open. Communication functions also include reporting on human activities within a coastal zone being managed.

  • UNIT STANDARD CCFO DEMONSTRATING
Awareness of the interrelatedness of systems:
  • This unit standard focuses strongly on understanding coastal ecosystems.

  • UNIT STANDARD CCFO CONTRIBUTING
    Personal development:
  • The learner becomes knowledgeable to the extent of being able to a contribution, however modest, to policy development. Interacting with small-scale commercial and subsistence fishers and local communities that are dependent on such activity is another personal developmental aspect. The learner has to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the Marine Living Resources Act no. 18 of 1998 and Coastal Development.
