PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to explain the significance of quality on the organisation and what the roles of the various stakeholders are in the quality process. Learners will also be able to identify and deal with all defective products, components and materials and perform a range of quality checks regularly and consistently using measuring instruments and equipment.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Describing and explaining the concepts of quality.
  • Conducting visual checks on incoming materials and components and the manufactured product.
  • Measuring products, components and materials and conduct operational on-line tests.
  • Recording production and defects and report incidents.

    Measuring and testing equipment may include but are not limited to rulers, vernier, micrometers, gauges, scales, pyrometers, go/no go gauges, jigs, master samples, ink and adhesion testers.
