  • Interpret sampling reports and decide on an appropriate course of action.
  • Calculate square metres, tons, grade, mineral content and kilograms of metal using given data.

    The multiple reef types/bands are explained in the context of mineral valuation.

    The meaning and expression of grade, pay-chutes, block value, block width and block call factor are explained in the context of mineral valuation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The terms pay limit and/or cut off grades are explained in the context of mineral valuation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The meaning of metal accounted for and metal called for and the factors influencing these in terms of MCF, where applicable are explained in the context of mineral valuation.

    The frequency of sampling required to confirm face valuation is explained in terms of the relevant site-specific procedure.

    The potential hazards involved in face sampling are identified and dealt with in accordance with specified requirements.

    The preparation and work required for accurate sampling of different reef types are conducted in accordance with site-specific requirements.

    The various sampling methods used are identified and explained in terms of standard sampling methodology and practice.

    Quality control measures are applied in accordance with the relevant site-specific quality assurance procedures.

    Over and under breaking and cost implications are calculated, considered and communicated in accordance with site-specific requirements.

    Off reef mining recommendations are made in accordance with site-specific requirements.

    Corrective action is taken in accordance with legal and site-specific requirements. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Calculate square metres, tons, grade, mineral content and kilograms of metal. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The value for various reef widths are calculated, given information on reef widths and grade, channel width and grade and stoping width and grade. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Square metres, tons and panel/face kilograms of metal are calculated by using standard methods. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Recovered kilograms of metal are determined by means of MCF and plant recovery factors. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Profit/loss is determined in terms of costs and metal recovered for a particular section of a mine by means of the standard methods of calculation. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant Education, Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA) Body, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant Education, Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA) Body, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant Education, Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA) Body, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA, according to the ETQA's policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
