PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The learner will develop an understanding and knowledge of communication skills, structures, conventions and grammar.
The development of these competencies enables the learner to communicate clearly and confidently. Clarity of communication is improved through the development of a learner`s editing skills which includes a conscious awareness of the learner`s own language usage. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Listening, speaking, reading and writing skills at ABET 3 or equivalent.

At this level learners understand and apply a range of communication skills, grammatical structures and conventions in a range of texts.
