    UNIT STANDARD NOTES
Recommendations and exemplars for the design of learning curriculum:

This unit deals with the skills and knowledge required to develop and manage marketing strategies within a business environment.

    Learning should include:
  • A study of market analysis and planning techniques.
  • An overview of marketing philosophy and concepts of marketing strategies
  • Promotion techniques, including advertising, in-house selling, direct mail and personal selling
  • Merchandising
  • Learner must be able to carry out (market) research on specific topics and write up clear logical reports. The learner should be able to do research on projects that are outside their immediate area of experience and expertise.
  • The learner must know how to write up a marketing strategy with a detailed, realistic implementation plan.
  • Learner could do an analysis of existing market data. Recommendations for the development of a new marketing strategy could be made based on the analysis. This could be presented for group discussion.
  • Learner could research the format for writing up marketing strategies. (This could include a specific product or service, a destination or a single event)
  • Learner could be given a case study for which a marketing strategy and implementation plan must be developed. This could be used for group discussion.
  • Learner could implement and monitor the marketing plan that was developed for the case study. This should be assessed over a period of time so that the learner can monitor ongoing issues of implementation. The learner could also review the marketing strategy and suggest appropriate recommendations. The recommendations should be incorporated into the plan and promptly communicated to the relevant people.
  • A portfolio of evidence relating to workplace experience, including the exercises and the project would be valid, provided that documentation included relates to actual (not simulated) marketing activities.

PROVIDERS CURRENTLY ACCREDITED TO OFFER THIS UNIT STANDARD:
This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here.
