PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The primary purpose of the qualification is to provide knowledge and skills to qualifying learners with the ability to use basic Zulu to communicate both orally and in writing 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners who register for this qualification should demonstrate:
  • The ability to express themselves clearly and correctly both orally and in writing in English
  • The ability to apply numeric skills, including basic arithmetic (add, subtract, divide, multiply)
  • Basic interest or experience in the use of Zulu as an ethnic language; and
  • Competence at Grade 10 or equivalent level

    Recognition of prior learning:

    This qualification recognises, through the submission of portfolios of evidence, the formal/non-formal/informal prior learning that learners, who register for the programme leading to the award of the qualification, bring to the learning situation

    EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES 
    A). Critical cross-field outcomes:

    1. Identify and solve problems in which responses display that responsible decisions using critical and creative thinking have been made
    2. Interact effectively with others as a member of a team, group, organisation and community
    3. Organise and manage one's time and activities responsibly and effectively
    4. Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate information
    5. Communicate effectively, using visual, mathematical and/or language skills in the modes of oral/written presentation
    6. Use science and technology effectively and critically, showing responsibility towards the environment and health of others
    7. Demonstrate understanding of the world as a set of related systems by recognising that problem-solving contexts do not exist in isolation

    1. Demonstrate the ability to use Zulu to:
  • Greet and make introductions
  • Introduce family and friends
  • Talk about jobs
  • Chat to petrol attendants and shop assistants; and
  • Discuss feelings

    In addition, learners will be able to use Zulu to read, write and translate:

    Simple letters
    Invitations and cards, short passages describing events in the present, past and future (using both the positive and negative); and
    signs, warnings and notice

  • Reflecting on and exploring a variety of strategies to learn more effectively
  • Participating as reasonable citizens in the life of local, national and global communities
  • Being culturally and aesthetically sensitive across a range of different contexts

  • Developing entrepreneurial opportunities

    Specific assessment:

    Understand, know and apply the Zulu Language in making and negotiating meaning
    Speak and write basic Zulu

    Integrated assessment:

    Continuous assessment
    The learner's ability to integrate the elements of the programme is assessed through tasks, activities and self-assessments

    Formative and summative assessments
    Learner competency is assessed through tests, practical tasks conducted under supervision, portfolio assignments, reports and case studies 

  • ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
  • The learners will obtain credits that enable them to exit at a FE& T national certificate level
  • This qualification will be able to articulate with other qualifications in the sub-field, which can be determined once the other qualifications have been registered
  • Exit level outcomes articulating with other qualifications 

  • MODERATION OPTIONS 
    A system of tutor moderation of the learning programme within the institution will be used, together with a system of external moderation of the assessment criteria and learner competency at exit levels to the qualification. Where professional or statutory bodies are involved in determining the curriculum, they will also be involved in moderation 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    Staff contracted by INTEC will be used as assessors in a manner accommodated within the quality management system of the institution. This would also apply to outside assessors
