PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The primary purpose is to provide qualifying learners with a certificate level knowledge, to function as a committed nurse practitioner in both hospital and community settings in aspects related to basic nursing, by assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and identifying abnormal/deviations from the normal activities of living, providing the appropriate care.

The secondary purposes of the qualification are:
  • to provide SA Community with Enrolled Nurses to improve the health status of individuals, families, community especially in the disadvantaged community.
  • to provide SA Community with nurses who will meet the requirements of SANC.
  • to lay a better foundation for further studies when required.
  • to assist in the various fields of health care settings e.g. clinics, various teams and activities. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners who register for this qualification can:
  • learn from previous experience (1st year), class attendance and practical field.
  • communicate and apply what they have learned with guidance, takes own initiative and responsibility to his learning progress.

    Recognition of prior learning:

    The learner who register for this qualification have grade 6 or 9 with Science subjects. This qualification recognises prior learning. Evidence must be submitted.

  • Interprets health related issues of the past and present in relation to the future (HE) preventive and promotive health.

  • Develops and facilitates solutions and strategies to solve the problems.

  • Assess using assignments, projects, case studies, examination.
  • Solve problems by searching for alternative strategies including referral for problems beyond her scope of practice.

    ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    On completion of this course the certificated graduate may proceed for further training/studies to the Diploma level if she wishes so. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    A system of second examiner is used/optional.
    The SANC provides its own system of moderation. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    Our own Staff is used as assessor for formative and summative evaluation.
    SANC provides the external examination papers and marks/assess the papers.
