PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
To provide the learner with the necessary technological, numerical and communication skills, knowledge, experience and attitudes required to perform the tasks related to a FET Certificate in Business Studies for individual and social transformation. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners who register for this qualification can apply the basic social, communication, literacy, numeracy and problem-solving skills comparative with those gained at NQF Level 3.

QUALIFICATION RULES 
The learner must obtain a pass in five (5) instructional offerings including the two (2) languages, having received instruction in the sixth instructional offering and failed.
One (1) of the Languages must be at first Language level, while the other must be at first or second language level.
Has passed one (1) Business language, one (1) Grade 12 language and the relevant N3 instructional offerings.

  • Carry out the functions and duties of an accounting clerk
  • Use computer technology effectively
  • Communicate effectively using visual and language skills
  • Compile elementary financial statements using the appropriate source documents
  • Operate a computerised financial package. 

  • ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Assessment criteria associated with Critical Cross-Field Outcomes:
  • Solve problems in a manner that displays effective teamwork.
  • Solve problems by means of an effective analysis of information that displays conceptual understanding.
  • Display the ability to transfer information from the theoretical to the practical realm.

    Assessment criteria associated with Specific Outcomes:
  • Relate information learned in a practical context.
  • Display effective communication skills, both verbal, non verbal and written.
  • Compile appropriate financial documents that indicate an understanding of the theoretical concepts.

    Integrated assessment to ensure that the purpose of qualification is achieved:

    1. Continuous assessment is done in order to compile a year-mark for the learner.

    2. Summative assessment is conducted through a National Examination.

    3. Formative and summative assessment are integrated to provide a coherent indication of learner ability. 

  • ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    1. Articulation with other Technical Colleges, Technikons and Universities.

    2. Qualifying learners will be able to enrol for a National Certificate N4: Business Studies (Management Assistant}(Marketing Management}and (Human Resource Management), (Financial Management) and (Business Management).

    3. Exit Level outcomes articulating with other qualifications are:

  • MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Moderators are appointed by the National Department for Examinations and Assessment (for each instructional offering) to ensure standards. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    The staff of the relevant Service Provider will be used as assessors in a manner accommodated within the quality management system of the relevant Institution. The relevant staff must be registered with the South African Council of Educators (SACE) and the relevant legislation as laid down in the Personnel Administrative Measures Document (PAM) must be adhered to.
