PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
A qualifying learner at this level is familiar with and competent in research techniques. The qualified learner has also successfully completed an IT research project.

Descriptive entry level:
Capable to apply advanced strategies and techniques in an IT environment.

Qualification entry level:
NQF Level 7 with 480 credits in the form of the B.ech: Information Technology or equivalent.

The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification, as detailed in the specified outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training in a single provider's learning programme, or through experience that complied with the stated specified outcomes. 

EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES

1. Competently apply research techniques in solving IT problems.

1.1 Apply research skills by producing a dissertation for an approved project in the field of Information Technology (c,f).

1.2 Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate information, in order to assess the situation correctly while doing applied IT research. (c,f).

1.3 Communicate effectively using scientific, visual and linguistic skills. (c).

1.4 Act as project leader and/or study leader for Baccalaureus students (e).

1.4 Acted as project leader and/or study leader for Baccalaureus students.

While South Africa still had Technikons, all of their qualifications were registered under the Committee of Technikon Principals. After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above).
