PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner who has achieved this unit standard will be competent in:
  • Cleaning production support units to ensure readiness for production. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    To enter a learning programme for this unit standard or to be assessed against this unit standard, the learner is assumed to have :
  • Literacy and numeracy at NQF level 1.
  • Knowledge of the application of quality control during tobacco processingIntroduction to the Tobacco Processing Industry. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The learner is expected to perform the specific outcomes as reflected in this unit standard with minimal supervision, but with access to work site procedures and cleaning instructions.

    The scope of this unit standard deals with the cleaning of production support units to ensure readiness for production.

    Production support units include, but are not limited to:
    1. Vibratory feeders and conveyor belts
    2. Stem roller unit
    3. Bulking silos
    4. Cutrag bin filler
    5. Vibro-cooler
    6. Dosing and weighing belt unit
    7. Feeders

    Although the learner is expected to perform the specific outcomes as reflected in this unit standard on all of the above-mentioned support units, assessment will be conducted on any two of the production support units as chosen by the assessor. 

    Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria:

    Prepare for cleaning of production support unit.

  • Removing tobacco from the unit according to work site procedures.
  • Obtaining cleaning utensils required according to work site procedures.

    Assessors will observe, confirm and evaluate evidence that will indicate that learners have demonstrated competence in each of the specific outcomes. In this unit standard the following specific criteria should be used:

  • Inspecting applicable machine components.
  • Following cleaning procedures.
  • Reporting deviations.

  • Locking out the unit.

    Perform cleaning of production support unit.
