PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner who has achieved this unit standard will be competent in:

Over-wrapping cigarette packets and filling display units to ensure availability for the case filling process. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
To enter a learning programme for this unit standard or to be assessed against this unit standard, the learner is assumed to have :

Literacy and numeracy at NQF level 1
Knowledge of the application of quality control on the final product
Knowledge of preparing a cigarette packet over-wrapper and display filling unit for production
Introduction to the Tobacco Processing Industry. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
The learner is expected to perform the specific outcomes as reflected in this unit standard with minimal supervision, but with access to work-site procedures and operating instructions

The scope of this unit standard deals with the over-wrapping of packets and filling of display units after the preparing of the over-wrapper and filling unit and before shutdown

Material includes, but is not limited to, packets, tear tape, film wrap, display blanks and adhesive

Equipment includes, but is not limited to, adhesive pot bushes, adhesive applicators, folders, code blocks, heaters,
conveyer belts and suction cups.

Commence over-wrapping and display unit filling.

  • Ensuring that all safety and quality detector systems are functional according to work site procedures
  • Starting the machine according to operating procedures

  • Taking corrective measures and resuming over-wrapping and filling according to operating procedures
  • Maintaining material supply according to work site procedures
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of equipment during over-wrapping and filling according to work site procedures
  • Attending to blockages during over-wrapping and filling according to work site procedures
  • Recording all relevant over-wrapping and filling quality data according to work site procedures
  • Reporting deviations on machine components according to work site procedures.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    An individual wishing to be assessed against this unit standard may apply to an assessor accredited by SETASA.

    Any training provider offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be registered and accredited by SETASA.

    Moderation of assessment will be done by SETASA in its ETQA capacity at its discretion.
