PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The Learner will be capable of:

Obtaining all relevant information in order to meet requirements on route and communicating information accurately and timeously to relevant role players thereby ensuring that a quality service is rendered to both internal and external customers.

  • Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Obtain operational information required for a trip. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. Valid documentation as required in terms of the relevant legislation, is at hand for the trip. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Relevant operational documentation is at hand for trip and confirmed as accurate and complete. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. All procedures for obtaining and reporting operational information are adhered to. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. Information about the route is obtained via the various sources. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
  • Information includes, but is not limited to: Route, Distance, Estimated time of arrival, Road conditions, Service stations, Border Posts, Toll Gates, Weather information.
  • Sources may include, but are not limited to: Documentation, Supervisor, Road Maps, Media reports, Cellular network.
     

  • ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    5. Route information is utilised to plan and prepare for requirements on route and in order to complete rout in a safe and efficient manner. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Learners credited with this unit standard should be able to determine destination and possible routes; select a route and record route details.
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Communicate required information to role players. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. Required information is communicated accurately, timeously and completely to the relevant role players. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Role players include parties in the logistic chain, who will be affected by the information.
    Information includes, but is not limited to: Accidents, Incidents, Breakdowns, Vehicle/product defects, Delays, Complaints, End of trip - operational information.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Communication devices are applied correctly and appropriately. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. Appropriate action is taken to rectify defects in communication devices. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. The ability to determine which information should be gathered and to whom it should be communicated, is demonstrated.

  • Requirements for documentation in terms of the relevant legislation.
  • Interpretation of road maps.
