PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The learner credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Inspect;
  • Assemble;
  • Remove;
  • Replace/install;
  • Adjust section insulator runners on 3-kV DC OHTE under "live conditions correctly and safely whilst working independently thus contributing to the safe running of electric trains as well as ensuring the continuity of power supply in the rail sector.

    Tools, equipment and are obtained and verified for correctness.

    Safe loading and off-loading of tools, material and equipment are ensured for correctness.

    The necessary safety precautions at the worksite are taken to prevent injury to personnel.

    Work permit is obtained correctly and timeously when work is performed under isolated and earthed conditions according to work-permit procedures.

    Protection is removed correctly in accordance with TWR.

    Work permit is cancelled correctly and timeously according to work permit procedures when permit was issued. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing or moderating a learner against this unit standard must be trained, qualified, certified and re-certified as an assessor/moderator in the OHTE/Substation division in accordance with the specific validation regulations relevant to the specific unit standard and registered with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this Qualification must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with a relevant ETQA.
  • The relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA will oversee assessment and moderation of assessment policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessment. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual Unit Standards as well as the integrated competence described in the Qualification.
