  • Explaining and identify different perishable cargo.
  • Describing the packaging requirements for perishable cargo which is intended for transportation by air.
  • Identifying risks and precautions when handling, storing and stowing perishable cargo.

    Cargo or commodities classified as perishable are described with examples. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Perishable cargo may include but is not limited to frozen food, fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products, medicines, body parts, blood samples, meat and fish products, fresh flowers, fresh poultry, fresh game.

    Reasons why cargo is classified as perishable are given with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The consequences are described of cargo that is not properly identified as perishable. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Describe the packaging requirements for perishable cargo which is intended for transportation by air.

    The consequences of incorrect packaging, storing and stowing of perishable cargo is explained with examples.

    Transport equipment used to transport perishable cargo is identified by explaining each type.

    Identify risks and precautions when handling, storing and stowing perishable cargo.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Precautions to be taken by the carrier and depots are explained in terms of handling, storing and stowing perishable cargo. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Time limits are identified for perishable cargo being stored under ideal conditions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Special instructions used for shipping perished cargo are communicated in order to maintain the quality of the perishable cargo. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Documentation for shipping of perishable cargo is completed in accordance with worksite procedures.
