PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The learner successfully completing this Unit Standard will gain essential knowledge of and practical exposure to the application of professional conduct and business ethics in an organisation. The learner successfully completing this Unit Standard will gain practical exposure in the use of correct behaviour and protocol.

Learners credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Apply business protocol.
  • Describe professional conduct in the work place.
  • Explain the role of business ethics in an organisation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of professional bodies, associations and regulatory authorities.

    Dignitaries and functionaries are addressed in accordance with international and local standards and practices. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
  • Addressed includes but is not limited to the correct use of titles, official forms of address, greetings and introductions.
  • International and local standards and practices may include but are not limited to the correct use of name tags, place cards, letters and invitations.

    The logistics for dignitaries and functionaries are arranged according to their appropriate status.

    An explanation is given of how good business ethics protects an organisation.

    An explanation is given of how good business ethics are applied in an organisation.

    An explanation is given of the approaches to business ethics. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Approaches may include but are not limited to attorney adversary, enlightened self interest, social responsibility, professional responsibility, Sullivan's Partisan Values, two-way symmetrical and normative.

    An explanation is given of the consequences of unethical business behaviour for the practitioner, the organisation and the profession.

    Demonstrate knowledge of professional bodies, associations and regulatory authorities. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The differences between a professional association, a trade union and a statutory or non-statutory regulatory bodies are explained in terms of their role, functions and authority. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The professional bodies, associations and regulatory authorities are identified for a specific organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The benefits of belonging to a selected professional body, association, trade union or regulatory authority within the sector are outlined from the perspective of both the organisation and the individual. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this Unit Standard or assessing this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.
