A learner accredited with this standard will be able to provide quality service to the customer and efficiency of practice within the Freight Logistics environment.

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    This standard is applicable to administration of a freight handling logistics office for the storage, handling and distribution of air, sea, road and rail freight. The candidate will deal with a variety of routine and non-routine situations, and be able to determine appropriate methods and procedures in response to a range of concrete problems with some theoretical elements. The candidate has full responsibility for the nature, quantity and quality of output, and possible responsibilities for the achievement of group output.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

    2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be registered with the FE/HE Registrar and the programs offered by this institution must be accredited with the relevant ETQA.

    3. Moderation of assessment will be done by the relevant ETQA at its discretion. 

    UNIT STANDARD ESSENTIAL EMBEDDED KNOWLEDGE 
    The learner can understand, explain and apply:

    1. Available technology and its applicability to freight logistics.

    2. Forecasting techniques and basic management accounting principles including generally accepted accounting procedures.

    3. Logistics principles and available distribution infrastructure.

    4. Principles of risk management and local and international freight insurance.

    5. Generally accepted office administration practice and ergonomics.

    6. Statutory requirements such as OHS, NOSA and ISO standards and a knowledge of how to source information.

    7. Disciplinary code and labour act and industrial relations procedures.

    8. Demonstrate the ability to integrate and direct the various role players in freight logistics e.g. suppliers, freight forwarders, customs, warehouse operators, distribution providers and customers.

    9. Recognise shortcomings in office administration documentation processes and freight handling systems and demonstrate the ability to improve them.

    Demonstrate and understand risk management systems in freight logistics environment.

    Demonstrate an understanding of information technology for the effective and efficient administration of logistics operations and communication with customers and service providers.
