PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION
This qualification comprises fundamental, core and elective standards. Learners will have demonstrated competence to research and modify designs for footwear, analyse and experiment engineering processes and source and substitute footwear materials to optimise processes. Learners will also be able to develop and improve on quality systems in footwear processes. Learners acquiring this qualification will also have elected a particular area of specialisation which will allow a learner to enhance and develop technology in the footwear industry.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Learners will have attained the NQF Level 4 qualification in footwear technology through competence assessment or recognition of prior learning.

RECOGNISE PREVIOUS LEARNING?

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Learners will produce evidence of the following:
  • Design a range of footwear by producing a specification.
  • Produce an engineering drawing for a range of machines and show what modifications could be made to enhance the performance of the footwear machines.
  • A data base of suppliers to the footwear industry is produced showing each material and criteria of dependability.
  • Demonstrate that within an appropriate context, relationships have been developed with suppliers.
  • For at least three different types of materials used in footwear, a substitute can be recommended.
  • A new quality system has been developed, or an existing system has been enhanced and the learner shows the effect of the enhancement.
  • A footwear product is produced where the following evidence is produced:
  • The process used to make the shoe has been costed out.
  • The layout of the plant making the shoes is drawn showing people, machines, storages and sequencing.

  • REREGISTRATION HISTORY
As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2012.

PROVIDERS CURRENTLY ACCREDITED TO OFFER THIS QUALIFICATION:
This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here.
