PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner achieving this unit standard in combination with context expertise standard(s) will be able to design and deliver effective coaching to intermediate and/or advanced level sport performers in one selected sport.

In addition the learner will be well-positioned to extend their learning and practice to other areas where effective coaching and knowledge of working with persons who have intermediate and advanced skills is useful, or to strive toward unit standards and practice at higher levels.

Competent qualifying learners will be able to coach effectively within a single sport of specialisation, thus improving the base of sport development and the quality of sport in South Africa in general. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
It is assumed that a learner attempting this unit standard will show competence in communication and numeracy equivalent to NQF level 5. It is also assumed that a learner attempting this standard has completed or is currently enrolled in unit standards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 of this qualification.

Complete a successful coaching experience with intermediate and/or adv level performers sport spec

1 Observe the performers in order to determine their needs.
2 Establish specific objectives for performance enhancement of these performers.
3 Implement a series of practice sessions, producing session-by-session descriptions of specific objectives and activities to promote performance enhancement.
4 Implement the planned sessions, evaluating success after each session and adjusting plans for subsequent sessions based on that evaluation.
5 Provide coaching support for these performers during a competitive event.
6 Evaluate the overall effectiveness of the coaching experience and make recommendations for further development efforts for the participants.

Submit a plan to periodise entire training year for intermediate or advan performers in sport spec

5 Maximise assertion and minimise aggression among performers.

Reflect on one`s own coaching performance in terms of the principles of effective coaching.

1 Keep a personal coaching log that records session-by-session thoughts about coaching.
2 Identify one`s own particular coaching strengths and propose ways to capitalise on those strengths.
3 Identify one`s own particular coaching weaknesses and propose ways to address improvement. 


UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the ETQAs policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation; in terms of agreements reached around assessment and moderation between ETQAs (including professional bodies); and in terms of the moderation guideline detailed under point 4 immediately below.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments at exit points of the qualification, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual unit standards as well as the integrated competence described in the qualification.

    Anyone wishing to be assessed against this qualification may apply to be assessed by any assessment agency, assessor or provider institution which is accredited by the relevant ETQA.
