PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners working towards this standard will be learning towards the full qualification, or will be involved in or working within a cleaning services environment. The learner will be able to manage the maintenance of equipment and will be able to apply the appropriate monitoring technique to it within a commercial, textile, domestic, health care, food handling, industrial cleaning and automotive area. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
The learner has the speaking and listening ability equal to NQF Level 2 Communication Skills standard and/or any other communication skill that will enable him/her to confirm the knowledge and skills required by this unit standard.
The learner is assumed to have basic knowledge of the operating principles of the equipment and the maintenance of the equipment according to the operating manual.
The learner is assumed to have detailed knowledge of OHS Act regulations pertaining to the maintenance of equipment. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
1. The scope of this unit standard is for any person who manages the maintenance of equipment and implements a system to monitor equipment within a commercial, textile, domestic, health care, food handling, industrial cleaning and automotive area.
2. The level assigned to this unit standard is appropriate because the processes require a wide range of technical skills, offer a considerable choice of procedures, and are applied in a variety of familiar and unfamiliar contexts.

2. Equipment can include, but is not limited to vacuum cleaners, mechanical sweepers, carpet cleaning machines, single disc machines, automatic scrubber-driers, high pressure washers, manoeuvrable mopping units, janitor trolleys, window cleaning equipment and ladders.
3. Warranties can include, but are not limited to warranties covering new equipment, service warranties and battery warranties.
4. Mechanical components can include but are not limited to wheels, handles, rubber belts, pipes and attachments.
5. Electrical/electronic components can include, but are not limited to electrical cables, plugs, circuit boards, batteries, battery chargers, electrical switches and fuses.
6. Equipment consumables can include, but are not limited to vacuum bags, rubber squeegees and scrubbing brushes.
