PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for people who are, or who seek to be employed at senior management level in the local economic development context where they influence strategic decision making.

It provides the learner an opportunity to ensure optimum access to strategic information by applying his/her knowledge of data sources and data management techniques.

People credited with this Unit Standard are able to:
  • Analyse information needs and develop a plan for sourcing and managing information.
  • Gather, record and store information required.
  • Analyse the information and provide advice into the strategic planning process. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners are competent in communication and Computer Literacy at NQF level 4. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • National strategies for socio-economic development e.g. green paper on Public Sector procurement.
  • International economic development trends e.g. globalisation.
  • Information sources include publications by research institutions and development agencies; government printer; libraries; internet sites (including on-line searching).
  • Storage options include own hard copies and electronic copies and other libraries.
  • Strategic level interventions include IDP; programmes and projects; municipality`sstrategy and budget.

  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this Unit Standard or will assess this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQ, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
