This unit standard is for persons responsible for monitoring and controlling a metallurgical plant from a control room. A person credited with this unit standard can:-
  • Demonstrate knowledge relating to the monitoring and controlling of a metallurgical plant
  • Start the metallurgical plant.
  • Monitor and control a metallurgical plant
  • Complete the duties pertaining to the monitoring and controlling of a metallurgical plant 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Literacy and numeracy at Grade 12 or equivalent
    Competence in the following:
  • Operation of applicable process equipment
  • Handling of applicable hazardous substances
  • Use of applicable equipment
  • Interpretation of assaying results
  • Operation of plant sections and interlock systems.
  • Principles of computer operations

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
    2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA.
    3. Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
